The remodelling of this basement was based on the customer’s need to increase the storage area of the house and to create a space in the house with a more informal utility given that the two existing upper floors are characterized by a “palatial” organization with a well-defined and well-structured cellular distribution.
During the development of the project, we were careful to respect the predefined organization, characterized by stone masonry walls.
However, the customer’s wish to obtain a wide space organization made it inevitable for us to demolish some wall sections, after reinforcing with metal beams the parts that were weakened by the intervention.
In terms of functional organization, the intervention is essentially characterized by two areas: work space, with a clothes treatment space and a pantry, and the social space with a wide informal living room.
All the areas are organized by a hall which, besides connecting them, is also linked to the exterior and the upper floor hall, making the most of the span existing in the primary structure.
The materials choice is the result of the space requirements were whites are predominant as well as some elements with pre-existing materials, such as the access door and the lintels and granite that stand out in the white ceiling.
